BUK’s Centre for Dryland Agriculture distributes palliatives to farmers from 22 communities

The Centre for Dryland Agriculture, CDA, Bayero University, Kano on Friday distributed seed palliatives to farmers from 22 neighbouring communities of the university to ease the effect of Covid-19 pandemic.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello, who led the distribution of the seed urged the farmers to make judicious use of it as it would increase their revenue generation.

 

He said the CDA was in the forefront in helping farmers with the new techniques and methods for improved farming activities. 

The director Centre for Dryland Agriculture, Professor Jibrin Jibrin said it was part of the centre’s outreach activities to bring farmers closer and help them with new farming techniques and seedlings for improved farming that would yield better output.

 

He said the seedlings were improved varieties that would help the farmers to upscale their production especially at this raining period which coincided with the difficult time as a result of the coronavirus.

 

The director said the CDA would continue to strengthen its relationship with the neighbouring communities, especially the small-holder farmers for improved farming that would boost food production in the country.

 

The deputy director, Outreach and Publication, Professor Amina Mustapha said the Centre’s outreach activities would continue to impact on the lives of small-holder farmers.

 

Representative of District Head of Tofa, Makaman Bichi, Sunusi Abubakar, who spoke on behalf of the communities, said the assistance rendered to them by the CDA could not be over emphasized, noting that they would strictly follow the guidelines of using the improved seeds.
